Lucky Dice Slot

“Are you feeling lucky, punk?” – the immortal words uttered by Clint Eastwood in the classic Western film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. And now, you can ask yourself that same question when you play this brand new slots game. From the minds at UK-based Yoyougaming Software comes the video slots game Lucky Dice. Boasting what can only be described as an “Asian-like” theme, the game looks to be featured on what appears to be some sort of monitor-looking slot machine from twenty years ago.

The presentation is certainly a bit odd, but that does not automatically mean that the game itself plays poorly. The big question is, how will Lucky Dice play in comparison to Yoyougaming’s other games?

Taste of Asia

The presentation of Lucky Dice is strange to say the very least. While the game does feature some Asian elements in its fare (such as the use of Chinese coins), the game doesn’t appear to go all-out with regards to the visual style.

The interface is designed to look as though it were being played on a slot machine, but the 2D interface in the monitor coupled with buttons that look to be rendered in conspicuous create an odd kind of clash. It isn’t ugly per se; it’s just that the styles themselves don’t mesh together particularly well. The blurry background looks to be a very out-of-focus picture of a casino background. However, we did find the 1970s style music that plays when you win to be rather funny though, as it kind of reminds me of something you’d hear in a Quentin Tarantino movie.

Being honest, the game itself isn’t poorly designed, as the interface is simple and easy to use, with all the options available it is just a case of tweaking the visual experience in order to get the best out of it.

Ready to Roll

The menu can be accessed on the bottom of the screen by clicking the various buttons found below the digital console. There are 5 fixed paylines in place (more info on that below) and you do get the chance to earn free spins should you match up the red star symbols. The +/- button changes your bet size and the “auto” button lets you activate the auto-spinner. Clicking the upper-right button allows you to adjust the volume and sound, as well as download the game’s very thorough documentation in .pdf format. The info above the buttons lets you know the size of your wager, your remaining balance as well as the remaining Mystery Games left (once again, more on that below).

What’s interesting about Lucky Dice is that the winning paylines aren’t constructed like your typical video slots game. The winning combinations (accessed through the “info” button) are shown as various combinations of dice instead. As a result, this game features a staggering number of winning reels. That’s not to say that there aren’t pay lines in place, it’s just that the way the wins are constructed is different from your normal video slots fare.

Looking for ‘Snake Eyes’

While the game has neither a progressive jackpot nor a bonus round in the traditional sense, it does allow for what the game refers to as “mystery games”. In spite of the name it actually refers to the bonus spins you can get. By lining up at least three red star symbols you can trigger between three to thirty free spins, and during that time the red stars become red dice symbols. Getting more dice in a row multiplies your winnings quite a bit, and the maximum jackpot can exceed 500 coins on a good roll! Getting the Chinese character symbols gives you the biggest payouts.

Unlock the Mystery of the Dice

Admittedly the game looks a bit odd, as it doesn’t have the flashy graphics or fancy overlays commonly seen in other video slots games, or even Yoyougaming’s other offerings for that matter. But what it lacks in style it makes up in substance. The game offers a massive number of winning combinations on account of its use of the eponymous dice in the reels rather than the usual symbols (although those are present as well). There is no bonus round but there are the loads of free spins one can win (perhaps that’s the mysterious aspect of it?). Coupled with the large coin denomination Lucky Dice can indeed be lucky for those of who land the right reel rolls. Lucky Dice may not have the visual panache of some other video slots offerings, but it plays well and gives you plenty of opportunities to win, which is what it really boils down to.
